LAYA LIBRARY |
In the foothills of the Himalayas, lies the mesmerizing village
of Laya. This small settlement in northern Bhutan is extremely
remote being accessible only by a 28km hike from the closest
town of Gasa. Bhutan has one of the least numbers of libraries
in the world Moreover, due to lack of opportunities for education
and work, rates of migration have drastically increased. In a
society with the lack of an educational framework, our proposal
for a tiny library as an “extension” to the existing school wishes
to bring together the local community, educate them and create
within a shared living-learning experience.
